A Message from a Happy Recipient
Submitted by robertw on Sun, 2008-01-27 08:51.Dear BC Digital Divide:
I am doing my homework on the new computer you provided me. My eyes are almost swollen shut from crying. I was so worried that it would become necessary to suspend my education that I have waited so long to achieve. I was becoming really scared. Then my friend found out about your generous service and gave me the information to contact you. I cannot thank all of you enough. I intend to catch up in school and succeed!

Donor Profile: Daniel Deyette
Submitted by robertw on Sun, 2007-12-30 21:14.Daniel is a tech entrepreneur in Aldergrove. In his spare time he has been assembling computers and donating them to seniors. But his main business has really taken off and he has little time to do such refurbishing anymore. So when he saw the recent segment about BC Digital Divide on Global News, he immediately contacted us and offered us a variety of equipment. In making the donation, he said, "It was a no brainer! It's awesome seeing these go to the right people."
While we appreciate all donations, Daniel's was quite spectacular. It included: 3 large monitors, 20 sticks of RAM & 8 hard drives (which we're always short of), 6 computers, 3 printers, 3 mice, and 3 keyboards. It was a very timely donation that has tremendously helped out our Fraser Valley techs, Trevor & Stan.

Using the Correct Video Port
Submitted by robertw on Sat, 2007-12-01 14:40.Our techs at BCDD do everything they can to maximize the performance of the computers that we give to our recipients. When they're available, they install an additional video card and disable the built-in one. This sometimes leads to confusion, as people plug the monitor into the disabled port, get no video, and think the computer is not working. Please take a look at this photo:

The video port in the green circle is the one that should be used.

Free Geek Vancouver: A Superb Like-Minded Organization
Submitted by robertw on Sat, 2007-10-27 14:44.Today a few of us from BC Digital Divide visited Free Geek Vancouver at 117 East 2nd Avenue in Vancouver. David Repa, the founder of the organization, provided us with a bunch of much needed components that will improve the systems our recipients will be getting in the coming months. They're an honourable, hard working group of people down there, who can use help from anyone - technical or not - who has some time to donate.
Also, sometimes people want to donate money to BC Digital Divide. We're not set up to accept it but Free Geek Vancouver is. So feel free to donate whatever funds you
Helping Out Wherever We Can
Submitted by robertw on Sat, 2007-10-27 09:14.BC Digital Divide – THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
On behalf of myself, our staff, board of directors, children and families of Maple Ridge Adventure Preschool Society would like to say thank you to Stan and his family that came out this past weekend to donate (2) computers to our preschool. The children have been very busy playing their learning games and activities and it’s wonderful to be able to offer them the use of these re-furbished computers that actually work! Because of your generous contributions you have helped relieve some the additional stress on our limited budget, so that we can focus on our goals for continued fundraising for other important items needed by the society.
