Not having a computer in our modern world is on par with illiteracy in days past. Our mission is to provide computers to those who would otherwise not be able to afford one.

A Message From Another Satisfied Recipient

First and foremost, I would like to thank the administration and staff of BC Digital Divide for their kindness and generosity. I am really happy and glad for the computer that your organization gave me. I was really amazed of the fast reply for my application. I want to thank Stan and his wife for delivering the computer. From the bottom of my heart, I can't help it but to say again thank you.

With the computer you gave, it would be very convenient for me to communicate with my children. You have definitely touched my heart and it's so overwhelming to know that there are still organizations like yours.

Donations Needed: You Can Help!

Our supplies of used computer equipment have run low and we can use your help to increase them ... even if you don't have anything to donate yourself. We've created some advertising flyers that inform people of our need and direct them to our website. You can download the general version here and the one targeting corporate donors here. Note: You can get the actual flyer file by right-clicking on either link and choosing "Save Target As" or "Save Link As".

The Summer Season

Summer has finally arrived here in Vancouver - and long overdue in the minds of many!

Over the summer months things will be slowing down for the volunteers of BC Digital Divide. So if you've sent in an application, please know that it is in our queue but we may not be reviewing it until the fall.

One thing we're definitely in need of are many more donated computers. We have plenty of monitors but would love nothing more than for an individual or a company to donate to us some more computers. To see what we're looking for, please visit here.

Major Milestone Achieved: 300 Computers Distributed!!!

BC Digital Divide has just crossed the 300 mark in terms of donated computer systems since its inception in December 2005! Understanding the amount of time put into the reception, refurbishing, re-installation, configuration, testing, and distribution of each computer, this is a MAJOR achievement!!! The key volunteers involved in this achievement include:

  • Bruce S.
  • Bob R.
  • Stan H.
  • Mabel H.
  • Mark M.
  • Trevor D.
  • Joanne S.

Plus, great support has been provided by Hazel S., Brian K., Jen C., Thomas G., Chris W., Cornell R., and Geoff M.

A GREAT Amount of THANKS to these wonderful people is in order!!!

Social Enterprises

Here's a fascinating news story on "social enterprises" from BBC Radio 4's programme, "In Business". Though BC Digital Divide isn't precisely defined as a formal social enterprise, we do try to run things in a very efficient, business-like way.

BC Digital Divide Volunteers Luncheon Get Together

With a great first year now behind us, the volunteers of BC Digital Divide are getting together for an informal (but good) lunch at a central Vancouver restaurant on Saturday, January 20th at 11:45am.

If you're interested to find out more about becoming a volunteer (in whatever capacity) then please know you're most welcome to join us. Just send an e-mail to DigitalDivideVolunteers@gmail.com to RSVP.

Updated Resources Page

We've recently updated our Resources page with lots of new information. One important new section features technical support professionals who have agreed to help out our recipients at reduced rates. Please do check them out!

Richmond News Article about BCDD

Michelle Hopkins, of the Richmond News, has just written a wonderful article about us. You can read it by clicking here. I really hope one day that an article can be written featuring the many people involved in the organization. In truth, I do very little these days compared to others. That credit goes to Bruce, Bob, Stan, Mabel, Thomas, Andra, Hazel, Brian, Santino, Jen, Ho, Fraser, Chris, and others. Plus, our corporate and individual donors are those generous folks who gi
